DAM system for media asset management

Definition

DAM stands for Digital Asset Management. With a DAM system, digital content is to be managed in the best possible way and without redundancy, and passed on to closed systems or persons as needed. For this purpose, the media assets or digital content must be stored centrally in a media-neutral manner.

Details about the DAM system

First and foremost, a DAM system is a database. It takes care of the central and structured administration of media assets, the standardised import and the channel-specific export. For the standardised import, the data stock is enriched with comprehensive information or metadata. This allows the data assets to be classified and described. In this way, data stocks are secured and subsequent research for content is simplified.

For proper data export, the DAM system keeps all media assets media-neutral. Required files can be output in different resolutions and formats depending on the intended use (online or print). This can involve direct downloading or automated transfer to supplementary systems such as online shops or PIM systems. After the export, there is no need for additional format adjustment.

Furthermore, DAM systems are the basis for an integrated solution such as a PIM application, a web-to-print solution or a content management system and automatically provide it with the right assets. The digital content is made available via interface on landing pages, e-commerce platforms, your own website, in social media channels or online shops.

Organisation of media assets in the DAM system

The media assets are tagged with keywords or search terms that match them exactly. They can be assigned to different topics or categories. The media assets can be stored in different folder structures. Independent of the folders or categories, you can create individual collections.
